This course is being offered as Distance Learning. Lessons may be completed anytime, anywhere according to the class schedule, but you MUST set aside time each and every week to complete the lesson.

We will be using a Lynda.com extensively in this course. It is an onine training web site. We will have a special educational pricing deal for Lynda. Information on registering and the costs will be provided at the start of class.
This course will cover the use of BOTH Microsoft Access 2010 software and MySQL. Microsoft Access 2010 runs on Windows operating system. For Mac computers, Windows operating system can be purchased and installed on a boot partition.
Micrcosoft Access 2010 is a part of Microsoft Office Professional 2010 or Microsoft Office University 2010. It is not a part of Family & Student version of Microsoft Office. It is also available for purchase separately. The software is available through the bookstore.
MS Access is also availble on campus
- Windward Community College has the software installed on computers in computer labs and in the library.
- Other campuses may also have the software installed.
- Check other locations to which you may use - work, friends, etc.
MySQL is free software which can be downloaded. It is available for both Mac & Windows.
More than the average number of students fail in Distance Learning. Why? Because they don't keep up with the course weekly, then find it difficult to catch up.
The other reason students do poorly is they think they can skip the lessons and just turn in the assignments. Then they spend hours trying to figure out how to do the assignments. DO THE LESSONS then you will learn how to do the assigments. Each lesson consists of two parts - a lecture often including video demos and Simnet training. BOTH must be completed
Please be aware of due dates. Assignments may be turned in early, but late assignments will result in points being deducted. Please contact the instructor if you have extenuating circumstances preventing you from submitting assignments on time.
